Diseases in marine aquarium fish
As a fish pathobiologist and director of a wholesale company of tropical fish, Dr. Bassleer sees about 1 million fish a year. This means that like other people dealing with living animals, he is constantly confronted with quality problems.
"When fish are caught and transported in closely packed spaces," Bassleer says, "they exhibit increasing signs of weakness, and therefore decreased immunity to disease. I strongly hope that my knowledge and experience as presented here will help to make quality control more than just a meaningless word in our particular business." Bassleer continues, "Moreover, retailers should make a point of gaining a higher level of the practical knowledge needed to sell fish."
Bassleer's book is based on experience he has gained while importing and selling tropical fish, as well as in training programs, and in countless contacts with fish enthusiasts to fish breeders and merchants.
Finally, Bassleer's hope is that the pictures and accompanying text will help all marine fish enthusiasts to enjoy their hobby even more!
